The Plan:  Nathan Webb will talk about the work of the   Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue unit including such topics as:

-        How the Coast Guard conducts search and rescue operations

-        Stories of actual search and rescue operations carried out by the Coast Guard

-        How many vessels the Coast Guard has on the west coast of BC and where they operate

-        Importance of clear communication when talking to the Coast Guard

-        Use of a computer program to determine where tides and currents will have taken boaters in the time it takes to get to them

-        How to recognize and deal with hypothermia

-        How to handle situations on the water

-        Discussion of recommended electronic aids such as Personal Location devices (PLD’s), VHF, VHF DSC, GPS, Spot, InReach

-        Safety on the water for kayakers

-        Question and Answer session at the end
