SISKA Getting the Most from Your GPS Clinic

Place:          Salvation Army Citadel, 4030 Douglas Street; Junior Room




Facilitator: Karen Stefanyk, a biologist who uses a GPS daily in her work on the water.


Description: Theory: What is GPS, and how does it work? The basics.


Terminology: waypoints, tracks, routes, position format, datum


Entering Settings: measurement units, position format, datum, time, resetting trip data


Techniques: mark and enter waypoints, find a waypoint, follow a track, access trip data


Discussion: limitations of GPS and application to kayaking


Optional: Last hour of the course we can take the units outside to play with them. Please bring appropriate clothing.




Please Bring: Participants must bring their own GPS (Model must be submitted


                      upon registering).                     




Cost:            $15 / person at time of registration. Limited to 8 SISKA members per clinic.
