Portland Island Kayak Campout - Sep 18-19, 2015

SISKA's Annual Campout this year was rescheduled and then abbreviated due to forecast strong winds, but the hardy souls who came had a great time nonetheless!

The very strong winds that battered the region at the end of August forced the rescheduling of the campout this year to Sep 18-20, and then strong winds forecast for Sunday caused us to prudently return on Saturday instead!  Led by Jo Runnells and Alan Campbell, the 9 kayakers who came had plenty of space for camping at Arbutus Point, and a few even paddled over to Russell Island and back the day we arrived. We shared appetizers and sweets around the dinner hour, happily swapping ideas and stories around a picnic table where a number of candles provided atmosphere for the evening. The light to moderate wind and current we encountered between Portland and Knapp Islands on our way back the next day was enough to keep us on our toes (of course, Stephen quickly outdistanced us pedalling his Hobie!), so that most of us were more than ready to get off the water and head for a well-deserved debriefing session at The Roost!
