SISKA hosts Greenland Paddling with Dubside
On April 24th and 25th, 2010, SISKA will host Greenland rolling expert Dubside for a number of clinics. The clinics will last 3 to 4 hours each and will be targeted at various levels (subject to demand). Enrolment is limited in each clinic.
If you are interested in enrolling in one of the clinics please contact Mike Jackson ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) with your choice of clinic(s) and preferred date/time. The clinics will be $85 for members and $100 for non members.
We plan to offer the following clinics:
Beginners Greenland Rolling (in pool)
Dubside will teach the basics of the standard Greenland roll to participants. This clinic is suitable for paddlers who have tried rolling but have not been successful or have done some rolling and need a tune up. This clinic will occur in the pool on Sunday evening April 25th from 6:30 to 9:30 PM. Due to the need for the pool session, there will be an additional $15 charge.
Introduction to the Greenland paddle and strokes
Dubside will introduce the Greenland paddle and teach participants how to use it effectively to paddle forward as well as manoeuver and brace. Dubside will hopefully bring participants to the point where they can perform the key base skills for rolling. We plan to hold this session on Saturday morning April 24th.
Intermediate Greenland Rolling
Dubside will help those who have a basic Greenland roll refine their roll. This session could take place on Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning/afternoon depending on demand.
Advanced Greenland Rolling
Dubside will help participants fine tune their Greenland rolls and also add some new rolls to their repertoire. Participants in this clinic should have a few rolls already in their “repertoire”. This session will take place on Sunday morning or afternoon depending on demand.
It is recommended that participants in the second two clinics practice their bracing and or rolls before the clinic so that they are “up to speed”. It is also recommended that participants take the time to view Dubsides DVD on Greenland rolling (available from the SISKA library). For more info see http://www.dubside.net/
Though these paddling techniques will work with a “euro” paddle, it is highly recommended that you have a Greenland paddle for the clinic. If you are having trouble getting one, please let Mike know and he may be able to help.
Location(s) are to be announced but may be in fresh water or the ocean.
