Paddle Description

Paddle Description

What:
A SISKA paddle from Amherst to Portland Island

Skill Level:
This paddle is rated as an "Energizer Paddle" because of its distance and open water crossings and possible current. To understand this designation better, please read the SISKA Paddle Guidelines
The estimated distance for this paddle is 11.80nm.

When:
Saturday January 27th, 2018. Meet at 9:00 am to be on the water at 9:30 am .

Where:
Meet at the Amherst launch site. There is a 4 hr time limit for parking at the Amherst beach access. After you offload your boat & equipment you will need to move your vehicle. It is probably advisible that you park on 3rd St. If you decide to park on Wildflower make sure that you do not park within 2 metres of a driveway. It would also be safer if everyone parked on just one side of the road. View map of launch site.

Who:
Contact the trip leader, Joanne Nicolson, for more information or to register for the paddle. Please note that the paddle leader has set the maximum number of paddlers for this paddle to 20. Register early if you plan on joining.

The Plan:
Our leader will introduce the Plan and make sure everyone is comfortable with the requirements and any concerns that you may have. Please stay off the water until we are all ready. The leader may choose to enlist helpers and establish communications protocol. If you have VHF radio please bring it with you.
Plan A
A full day, fun, and fantastic paddle to Portland Island.

Debrief at a local pub after the paddle for beverage, snack, dinner...

Plan B
Will be weather/wind dependent. Stay tuned if we need this option.
