Route plan A

Leaving from Beecher Bay Marina, we will hug the shore all the way to Iron Mine Bay, where we will have lunch. We will follow the same route in reverse after lunch. Total distance approx. 9.6 NM. Helmets are mandatory for those interested in rock gardening.

Becher Bay Marina is ending their season that weekend, and the parking lot will be busier than usual with people pulling their boats out. The Marina staff has requested that we limit our group to a maximum of 5 vehicles. Priority will be given to paddlers who can carpool. There is a $10 launch fee per kayak.

Route plan B

If the weather is not suitable for plan A, alternatives include a Spirit Bay tour out of Beecher Bay and a Sooke harbour tour out of Cooper Cove.

Safety reminders

Always dress for the possibility of immersion and please bring a drybag containing a spare change of clothes. The drybag goes in your kayak with you, not in your car at the launch site. Please bring a lunch or snacks and sufficient beverage to keep you hydrated, as well as a thermos of something warm. Your paddle leader will introduce the plan and make sure everyone is comfortable with the requirements. Please stay off the water until the group is ready. If you have a VHF radio please bring it with you.
