Route plan A

Leaving the launch point at Spirit Bay (Cheanuh Marina) we will do a clockwise circumnavigation of Becher Bay and enjoy the varied and interesting eastern shoreline of the bay. After reaching the Bedford Islands at the mouth of the bay, we will cross over to Aldridge Pt (East Sooke Park) and then follow the park shoreline to Cabin Pt. NOTE: There may be some turbulent and challenging paddling water around Beechey Head on our way to and from Cabin Pt. Our lunch spot will be at Cabin Pt.

After lunch- we follow the shoreline back to Becher Bay and then back to our launch pont at Spirit Bay.

We can debrief the paddle at nearby Pedder Bay Marina.

As we are paddling in the Straif of Juan de Fuca, the air and water temperatures will be cooler. Ensure you are wearing appropriate immersion gear (i.e. drysuits & wetsuits), good base layers and headwear. It is also recommended to bring along a warm jacket or cag to wear at lunch so that you do not get chilled. If you plan to paddle closer to the rocks along the route, bring a helmet.

Route plan B

If the winds in the strait force a PLAN B- we can spend our time paddling doing a complete circumnavigation of Becher Bay for a distance of approximately 6.5nm.

Safety reminders

Always dress for the possibility of immersion and please bring a drybag containing a spare change of clothes. The drybag goes in your kayak with you, not in your car at the launch site. Please bring a lunch or snacks and sufficient beverage to keep you hydrated, as well as a thermos of something warm. Your paddle leader will introduce the plan and make sure everyone is comfortable with the requirements. Please stay off the water until the group is ready. If you have a VHF radio please bring it with you.
