Destination Tsehum Harbour

Route plan A

Launch from the beach at the foot of Amhurst Ave (off 3rd St) in Sidney, follow the shoreline around Roberts Point, through Roberts Bay to Armstrong Point where we enter Tsehum Harbour. Being mindful of boat traffic we will follow the shoreline through the harbour passing Nymph, Wales, and Kingfisher points before crossing the harbour entrance at Curties Point back to Armstrong Point for our return along the shoreline to Amhurst beach. Expect a rest break at Nymph Point. Total paddle time should be 3-4 hours depending on pace.

Expecting a gentle flood current at launch to give us a push past Roberts and Armstrong points, the shelter of Tsehum Harbour means no current to deal with, and mostly still water (or a very gentle ebb) on our way back to Amhurst from Curties Point.

** There are no washroom or changing facilities at Amhurst beach or our planned rest break stop.

*** Parking on Amhurst Ave nearest the launch site is limited to 3 hours, so plan to drop your boat and gear off at the launch stairway and park your car on 3rd St or Amhurst Ave on the other side of 3rd St ***

Route plan B

TBA depending on wind forecast.

Safety reminders

Always dress for the possibility of immersion and please bring a drybag containing a spare change of clothes. The drybag goes in your kayak with you, not in your car at the launch site. Please bring a lunch or snacks and sufficient beverage to keep you hydrated, as well as a thermos of something warm. Your paddle leader will introduce the plan and make sure everyone is comfortable with the requirements. Please stay off the water until the group is ready. If you have a VHF radio please bring it with you.
