Get, stop or change club emails
Where club emails and the newsletter come from, how to stop or restart them, and what to do when you change your email address.
Where club email comes from
Your newsletter, website announcements and notices about your club roles have separate settings. Find them together under Email preferences in My Account → Profile & Contact.
- The newsletter and club-wide emails go out through Mailchimp, the club’s mailing service. The join form has a separate newsletter choice. Mailchimp may ask you to confirm your subscription before emails start arriving.
- Emails from this website are about activities you sign up for (request received, confirmed, waitlisted, spot offered, reminders before a paddle), messages from your leader, your membership (application received, membership confirmed), renewal reminders, and general notices that coordinators send to groups of members.
- Notices about your club roles help leaders, coordinators and volunteers keep up with their work. They normally arrive together in a morning summary. You see these settings only if they apply to you.
Missed a newsletter? Every issue is under Documents, in Newsletters.
Stop general club emails
- For the newsletter and other Mailchimp emails, choose Unsubscribe at the bottom of the email, or turn the SISKA newsletter switch off under Email preferences in My Account → Profile & Contact, then choose Save email preferences.
- For general emails from the website, choose your name at the top of the page, then My Account, then Profile & Contact. Under Email preferences, turn Website announcements off, then choose Save email preferences.
- You can also use the unsubscribe here link at the bottom of a general email from the website, then choose Unsubscribe. It turns off Website announcements in My Account.
The newsletter and website announcement emails have separate choices. Turning either off leaves the other as you chose it. Newsletter changes usually reach Mailchimp within a few moments.
Messages about activities you are registered for still arrive either way: confirmations, waitlist news, reminders and notes from your leader. So do the emails about your own membership application.
Renewal reminders stop too
With announcement emails off, the website doesn’t send you its renewal reminders in the new year. Membership runs January 1 to December 31, so remember to renew on your own.
Start them again
For website announcements, turn Website announcements on and choose Save email preferences.
For the newsletter:
- Turn SISKA newsletter on. The page checks what Mailchimp can tell us, then choose Save email preferences to apply your choice.
- Read the status below the newsletter heading. Saving an on choice does not always mean you are subscribed yet. If confirmation is needed, follow the link in Mailchimp’s confirmation email.
- If you need to sign up again, choose Finish signup on Mailchimp. If the confirmation email does not arrive, check junk or spam, then use Didn’t get the email? to try the signup form.
- Both links open Mailchimp in a new tab with your name and email filled in. Review the details, choose Subscribe, and follow any confirmation email.
- Return to your profile. The page checks again when you return; use Check subscription status if it still shows confirmation is needed. Opening the form alone does not finish your subscription.
You can open the form again later, or ask the Newsletter Coordinator through the Contact page.
Choose when notices about your club roles arrive
- In the same Email preferences card, find Emails for your club roles. It lists only notices for the activities you look after or the club positions you hold.
- Leave a notice on Morning summary to combine it with your other notices in one email, sent at 5 am on days there is something for you. Where offered, choose Right away to receive that kind of notice as it happens.
- Choose Save email preferences.
Some notices stay in the morning summary; others let you choose when they arrive. Only Copies of leader reminders, an information-only list for the Club Paddle Coordinator, has an Off choice. Requests for activities starting within two days always arrive right away.
Turning off Website announcements or the newsletter does not turn off the notices needed for your role.
Change your email address
Your email is also how you sign in, so change it in one place.
- Open My Account → Profile & Contact.
- Type the new address in Email and choose Save profile details. The page says Your profile details were updated.
- From now on, sign in with the new address. The old one no longer works for signing in, and emails from the website go to the new one straight away.
- The newsletter list is kept in Mailchimp. The website requests the update automatically, usually within a few moments. Your newsletter choice stays the same. Check its status in Email preferences in case Mailchimp needs you to confirm or finish signing up with the new address.
If the page says the email is already linked to another SISKA record or another SISKA account, someone else on file (often a family member) already uses that address. Use a different one, or ask the Membership Coordinator to sort it out.
Not getting club emails?
- Look in your junk or spam folder. If a SISKA email is there, mark it as not junk. Mail from the website comes from addresses ending in @siska.ca, so adding those to your contacts helps.
- Check My Account → Profile & Contact: is your email right, and is Website announcements turned on under Email preferences?
- Getting website emails but not the newsletter? Check the separate newsletter status in My Account. You may need to confirm your subscription or correct an undeliverable address. The Newsletter Coordinator can help.
