Details:
***THIS CLINIC IS NOW FULL***
This clinic is for beginner/early intermediate paddlers. We will start at Gyro Park, Cadboro Bay with a brief land-based class session followed by a paddle to the current location at Carboro Point (aka 10 Mile Point), stopping along the way to practice low brace turns. We will discuss reading the water, overfalls, standing waves, whirlpools, and back eddies and practice ferrying, eddying in and out, edging, bracing, and forward paddling with power. This will build your skills and conIidence to enjoy paddling in currents. It is a fun session!
This clinic requires minimum Level 1 or equivalent skills as well as being comfortable for possible capsizing. This area is a good training area because if you do capsize, you will not travel very far! Immersion gear is necessary as is a helmet. Have a change of warm clothes in a drybag in your kayak.
Meet at 10:30 am so you and your kayak are ready for the 11:00 am OTW start.
Please bring a substantial snack as well as hydration. There is a small beach nearby for breaks.
If the winds are too strong, you will receive an email the night before and the clinic can be cancelled. Maximum participants of 6, plus 2 instructors.
Cost:
The cost of this event/clinic is $25.
Note: Refunds for cancellations will be permitted until 2 weeks in advance of a paid workshop, clinic, or course. Within 2 weeks of such an event, refunds for cancellations will only be provided if another member registers and pays for the spot vacated.
