A SISKA Relaxed paddle from Albert Head to Crabbing Paddle Catch your own lunch! - details to follow

Skill Level:
This paddle is rated as a Relaxed Paddle because of its modest pace, relatively safe environment and social component. To understand this designation better, please read SISKA's Paddle Guidelines
Paddlers taking part in this paddle are required to have PC Basic or equivalent experience. For information about PC Levels click here.
The total distance of this paddle is estimated to be approximately 4.00nm.

When:
Saturday, June 17th, 2023. Meet at the launchsite by 09:00am to be on the water by TBAam

Details:
Our leader will introduce the Plan and make sure everyone is comfortable with the requirements and any concerns that you may have. Please stay off the water until we are all ready. The leader may choose to enlist helpers and establish communications protocol. If you have VHF radio please bring it with you.
Plan A:
The BC free fishing weekend is June 16-18 - no licence is required. Catch your own lunch!
Master crabber Edmond Duggan will hold a clinic on crabbing techniques - all you need to know about crabbing, including how to prepare the crabs for the table.
Edmond will supply crab traps and gear and send each registered paddler notes of details & requirements: (ie. bait, floats etc.)
Traps will be placed under Edmond's guidance and we will go for a short paddle, to allow the crabs to show up. ie a normal relaxed paddle - beach talk, all safety gear etc.
Edmond will demonstrate how to prepare and cook the crabs for lunch. Corn & butter will be supplied. Please bring a plate + something to share (eg crackers, cheese etc) for the feast.
An opportunity for new fishers to try out crabbing (preference to new participants)

Note:
Always dress for the possibility of immersion and please bring a drybag containing a spare change of clothes.
Please bring a lunch / snacks and sufficient beverage to keep you hydrated, as well as a themos of something warm.
All participants are expected to have read, and to comply with SISKA's Policies and Procedures
All paddlers must have submitted proof of vaccination in order to take part in this paddle.
