What:
A SISKA Energizer paddle from Oak Bay Marina to RAFT UP with Comox Paddlers to Discovery I Paddle from Oak Bay Marina to the Chatham/Discovery Islands

Skill Level:
This paddle is rated as an Energizer Paddle because of its distance and open water crossings and possible current. To understand this designation better, please read SISKA's Paddle Guidelines
Paddlers taking part in this paddle are required to have PC Level 1 or equivalent experience. For information about PC Levels click here.
The total distance of this paddle is estimated to be approximately 8.30nm.

When:
Tuesday, June 13th, 2023. Meet at the launchsite by 09:30am to be on the water by 10:00am

Details:
Our leader will introduce the Plan and make sure everyone is comfortable with the requirements and any concerns that you may have. Please stay off the water until we are all ready. The leader may choose to enlist helpers and establish communications protocol. If you have VHF radio please bring it with you.
Plan A:
Launch @ 10 am from the beach near the parking lot.
Paddle north around Cattle Point, E of Jemmy Jones I, cross Baynes Channel NE to Strongtide I, E across the top of Chatham I and S down the E side of Chatham and Discovery I to Rudlin Bay for lunch. After lunch continue clockwise around Discovery I and set a course through the Chain Islets back to Oak Bay Marina.
Distance 8.3 nm. Return to launch site by 3 pm.

Tides (Oak Bay): LT 0750 3.6’, HT 1439 6.3’
Current (Baynes Channel): 0829 slack, 1118 max flood +2.7, 1412 slack, 1720 max ebb –2.1

Coffee/tea/etc at Dockside Eatery in Oak Bay Marina, on the dock past the Ocean River store.

Plan B:
Changed location to Telegraph Cove due to the WSW wind forecast. A good decision! Paddle route was paddling to Cadboro Point from Telegraph Cove, around the navigation light (some flood current and few waves...all within E paddle guidelines), then back to Cormorant Point for lunch. An 8.5 n. mile paddle

Note:
Always dress for the possibility of immersion and please bring a drybag containing a spare change of clothes.
Please bring a lunch / snacks and sufficient beverage to keep you hydrated, as well as a themos of something warm.
All participants are expected to have read, and to comply with SISKA's Policies and Procedures
All paddlers must have submitted proof of vaccination in order to take part in this paddle.
