What:
A SISKA Energizer paddle from VCKC Clubhouse to RAFT UP with Comox Paddlers - Victoria Waterway Lo Paddle the Gorge Waterway, Victoria Harbour, Esquimalt Coast and Harbour
Skill Level:
This paddle is rated as an Energizer Paddle because of its distance and open water crossings and possible current. To understand this designation better, please read SISKA's Paddle Guidelines
Paddlers taking part in this paddle are required to have PC Level 1 or equivalent experience. For information about PC Levels click here.
The total distance of this paddle is estimated to be approximately 8.40nm.
When:
Thursday, June 15th, 2023. Meet at the launchsite by 09:30am to be on the water by 10:00am

Details:
Our leader will introduce the Plan and make sure everyone is comfortable with the requirements and any concerns that you may have. Please stay off the water until we are all ready. The leader may choose to enlist helpers and establish communications protocol. If you have VHF radio please bring it with you.
Plan A:
Paddle Loop clockwise from Victoria Canoe & Kayak Club (VCKC) Ramp/beach, 355 Gorge Road West

Note: Paddlers must have a set of kayak wheels.
Launch @ 10 am from ramp at VCKC.
Paddle from VCKC under the Tillicum Bridge through the Narrows with the ebb (~6kts), out the Gorge and Victoria Harbour under the Selkirk Trestle, Bay and Johnson Street Bridges, past the Inner Harbour and marinas, then following the Esquimalt shoreline W to Fleming Beach/MacAulay Point for lunch. After lunch continue W along the Esquimalt shore, into Esquimalt Harbour to Portage Beach. Load boats on wheels and follow the 1km trail to Portage Inlet. Launch into Portage Inlet and paddle out the Gorge Waterway to VCKC.
Distance ~ 8.4 nm. Return to launch site by 3 pm.

Note:
Always dress for the possibility of immersion and please bring a drybag containing a spare change of clothes.
Please bring a lunch / snacks and sufficient beverage to keep you hydrated, as well as a themos of something warm.
All participants are expected to have read, and to comply with SISKA's Policies and Procedures
All paddlers must have submitted proof of vaccination in order to take part in this paddle.
