Details:
Our leader will introduce the Plan and make sure everyone is comfortable with the requirements and any concerns that you may have. Please stay off the water until we are all ready. The leader may choose to enlist helpers and establish communications protocol. If you have VHF radio please bring it with you.
Plan A:
Launch from Telegraph Bay (Cove) and follow the shoreline north along the Gordon Head waterfront to Margaret Bay watching for seals, otters, seabirds, and the sea-caves along the rocky shore. Stop for a stretch and a snack at Margaret Bay (or Glencoe Cove) before retracing our route back to the launch site. There are no washroom facilities at the launch or landing sites. Good parking available at Telegraph Bay. Possible debrief post-paddle at Moka House in Cadboro Bay.
Current prediction for Haro Strait shows a moderate ebb throughout the paddle window so we will get a bit of a push back to Telegraph Bay. Tide will be high at launch (around 3M) falling to about 2M by 100pm so there may not be much beach at Telegraph Bay for launch but there should be land on our return.
Expect cold temperatures in early January, so ensure you dress appropriately and bring something warm to eat and/or drink at the break. A spare pair of gloves for the return paddle can take the sting out of paddling in cold, wet gloves after the break.
Anyone with questions please contact the paddle leader at; Seakayak.Craig@gmail.com (don't reply to SISKA emails!)
Plan B:
TBA - wind strength and direction will determine if this paddle goes ahead, is relocated, or cancelled.
