Details:
Our leader will introduce the Plan and make sure everyone is comfortable with the requirements and any concerns that you may have. Please stay off the water until we are all ready. The leader may choose to enlist helpers and establish communications protocol. If you have VHF radio please bring it with you.
Plan A:
The long-range weather forecast suggests a great day for a paddle in the Southern Gulf Islands. There will be a variable ebb tide requiring participants to paddle against and across currents of 1-2 knots. Due to the paddle length and currents, paddlers should be strong level 1 and be comfortable in choppy conditions. We will island hop in a roughly clockwise pattern taking advantage of the occasional eddies en route to Gooch and Rum Islands where we'll stop for lunch. There is an outhouse on Rum Is. After lunch we'll head clockwise around Tom Pt before following the shoreline along the south length of Gooch Is before cutting across to the SW tip of Forrest Is. We'll then follow the Forrest Is shoreline to the most N.Westerly tip of Forrest. From there, it's a diagonal paddle across the channel to The Little Group and then back to our Amherst launch site.
For those with time and interest, we'll plan a coffee and debriefing at The Roost at McTavish and E. Saanich.
Plan B:
TBA If winds are not favourable, a notice of a plan B ( likely a paddle in Saanich Inlet) will be sent to those on the manifest.
