Details:
Our leader will introduce the Plan and make sure everyone is comfortable with the requirements and any concerns that you may have. Please stay off the water until we are all ready. The leader may choose to enlist helpers and establish communications protocol. If you have VHF radio please bring it with you.
Plan A:
Depart from the beach to the left of the Brentwood ferry dock (Verdier Park, with heated washroom facilities). Cross to Willis Point and noodle along the shoreline to McKenzie Bight where we will stop for a snack and stretch break (pit toilet) before retracing our steps to the launch site. If energy levels and interest allow, a detour circuit of Tod Inlet is a possibility on the return. This is a short paddle with lots of opportunity to manoeuvre around / under piers while watching for wildlife and being social with your fellow paddlers. Expect to be on the water for about 3 hours from launch to return.
Tides are predicted to be 1.9 metres at launch, rising to 2 metres by noon, and falling to 1.8 metres at 1400hrs. There will be lots of beach to launch and return to.
Current is very rarely an issue in the protected water of Saanich Inlet - however winds blowing up Squally Reach from the Goldstream estuary can make for conditions which exceed limits for a Relaxed paddle - confirmation of the paddle plan will come out a couple days before.
Parking is sometimes available in front of the Brentwood Bay Resort, otherwise parking can be found on nearby side streets (be careful not to block residents' driveways).
We will help each other carrying kayaks up / down the somewhat steep path from Verdier Park to the launch beach.
NOTE: THE PADDLE LEADER WILL BE AWAY FROM APRIL 26 TO MAY 14. CONFIRMATION OF REGISTRATION WILL BE SENT OUT UPON MY RETURN.
Anyone with questions please contact the trip leader at cst4420@telus.net or 250.213.2507.
