Check tides and currents for a paddle
Open the tide and current reference from a paddle page, read the charts, switch to the full day and look at another date.
Open the reference for a paddle
Every paddle with a launch site shows the tide and current predictions for its day, so you can check slack water, the strongest current and the tide height before you decide what to bring.
- Open Calendar, find the paddle and open it.
- In the Resources card beside the details, choose Tides & Currents. The tide/current reference opens over the page and shows the paddle’s date. No button? That paddle’s launch site has no tide or current station set up yet.
Read it
- On the Reference data tab, the tide chart shows height through the day, with the high and low tides marked. The current chart shows speed and direction, with slack water and the maximum ebb and flood marked.
- The charts open on 10am to 3pm, a typical paddle. Switch to Full day to see the whole day.
- Move your pointer along a chart, or use the arrow keys, to read the time, speed and direction at any moment. The tables below the charts list the same events with their times.
- Choose the Current map tab to see the current around the launch site on a map.
Look at another day
Use the arrows either side of the date at the top of the window to step to the Previous day or Next day, or pick any date in the date box. Close the window with the × at the top right.
Where the numbers come from
Predictions come from the Canadian Hydrographic Service. Some stations are estimates derived from a nearby reference station, and the tables say so when they are. They are a planning aid: the paddle leader makes the call on the day, and conditions can differ from the predictions.
