A SISKA Energizer paddle from Spirit Bay to Cabin Point Becher Bay and along the rocky shoreline of East Sooke Regional Park

The total distance of this paddle is estimated to be approximately 10.90nm.
When:
Sunday, February 05th, 2023. Meet at the launchsite by 09:30am to be on the water by 10:00am
Where:
We will launch at Spirit Bay. Need directions to the launchsite? Click here.
Who:
This paddle will be led by Anton Cepeliauskas For more information about this paddle email Anton Cepeliauskas
Details:
Our leader will introduce the Plan and make sure everyone is comfortable with the requirements and any concerns that you may have. Please stay off the water until we are all ready. The leader may choose to enlist helpers and establish communications protocol. If you have VHF radio please bring it with you.
Plan A:
Leaving the boat ramp at Spirit Bay, we will do a clockwise circumnavigation of Becher Bay and explore the rocky shoreline and small islets on the east side of the bay. We will cross over the mouth of Becher Bay near West Bedford Island to reach Alldridge Point in East Sooke Regional Park. After reaching Alldridge Point, we will then follow the shoreline of East Sooke Park past Beechey Head to our destination to the beach area at Cabin Point.
This paddle exposes paddlers to some of the marine environment of the Strait of Juan de Fuca with possible ocean swells and currents - and the possibility of whale sightings!
Paddlers thinking about this paddle need to be comfortable with slightly longer distance of about 11 nautical miles and the potential for more exposed paddling conditions ( i.e. swells, currents) in and around the headlands along the paddle route.
Plan B:
If the weather conditions due to wind or fog dictate a Plan B , we can do a circumnavigation of Becher Bay. Total distance of this plan would be 6.5 nautical miles ( approx.)
