Plan A:
This paddle along the shoreline of East Sooke Park in Scian'new First Nation territory passes a precontact petroglyph, underwater remains of remarkable reef nets, and shipwrecks. There are gorgeous rock faces and contorted trees and always marine mammals and birds. The coast is somewhat exposed and the lunch landing can be wet, so paddlers should be comfortable receiving or assisting with assisted rescues.
A moderate ebb will carry paddlers to the lunch stop at Cabin Point. Around 1pm the change to flood will accelerate the return voyage.
Plan B:
Paddle in Becher Bay out of the worst wind and waves if conditions make the proposed full paddle unwise. There is lots to see in Beecher Bay as well.
