The leader may choose to enlist helpers and establish communications protocol. If you have VHF radio please bring it with you.
Plan A:
Paddle out of Flemming Bay (Mcaulay Point Park) exploring along the shore towards Victoria Harbour around Macaulay Point to visit 'Seal Island' (aka Harrison Island) before reversing course and paddling back past Flemming Bay and Saxe Point en route to the entrance to Esquimalt Harbour. We'll plan to cross over from Duntze Head to Fisgard Lighthouse (landing in the National Park requires paid admission, so no landing planned), then backtracking our way to the launch site at Flemming Beach. Crossing Esquimalt Harbour to the lighthouse requires calm seas and fair winds - that decision to be made during the paddle. Total paddling time should be around 3 hours beach-to-beach.
There is a washroom at Flemming Beach. No rest stop is planned, bring a snack you can eat while underway with sufficient water to remain hydrated.
There is lots of free parking at Flemming Beach. Park first, then carry / cart kayaks to the beach to the right of the boat ramp where we will launch - boaters using the ramp need all the space to maneuver their trailers and we want to stay on the good side of Esquimalt Angers.
Current is rarely an issue here, with the most current effect noticeable while rounding Macaulay Point. Tide is ebbing from early morning until 1430hrs with a 1.5 foot change between 1000 and 1430hrs. Anyone with questions please contact the paddle leader in advance.
Plan B:
Favourable wind conditions will determine if this paddle proceeds as planned or relocated.
